ROSSLYN, Va., November 27, 2018—The National Electrical Manufacturers Association(NEMA) announced the winners of its annual awards November 15, 2018, during its Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. The awards recognize individuals or companies for their achievements in and contributions to the electrical and medical imaging industry.

“The NEMA Annual Awards celebrate the achievement, applaud creativity, and salute electroindustry leaders. Our industry’s innovators inspire us to keep moving forward by their pursuit of the next big idea. Each year we celebrate the journey of discovery,” says NEMA President and CEO Kevin J. Cosgriff. “Our 2018 award winners all inspire us to keep testing our boundaries.”

The Rӧntgen Award commemorates the father of medical imaging, Wilhelm Conrad Rӧntgen, who discovered x-rays and created the first medical image in 1895. This award celebrates pioneers within NEMA Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA). Senior Director Regulatory Affairs at Canon Medical Systems USA Paul Biggins was awarded the 2018 Rӧntgen Award for his leadership in the medical device industry. Mr. Biggins has more than 35 years of experience in the diagnostic imaging industry and has played a pivotal leadership role within MITA by his near-constant presence fixture in MITA meetings of all types.

The Illuminations Award was presented to Applied Information, Inc., a small Member company that demonstrates success through entrepreneurial growth and advanced technology innovation. Founded in 2011 by Bryan Mulligan, the company is a leader in developing connected, intelligent transportation system solutions designed to improve safety, reliability, and mobility. Mr. Mulligan is active in NEMA Transportation Division and recently led the effort to develop a new transportation cybersecurity Standard.

David Kendall, Director of Industry Affairs at ABB Inc., and Alan Manche, Vice President of External Affairs at Schneider Electric received the Kite & Key Award, in recognition of their exceptional work in codes and Standards advancing the interests of the electroindustry.

Having worked in the industry for 25 years, Mr. Kendall has vast experience in Standards development. In addition to holding leadership roles within several NEMA Sections and Committees, Mr. Kendall is involved in other organizations including Underwriters Laboratories. He works closely with industry partners to promote the safe use and installation of electrical products.

Alan Manche – the second winner of the Kite & Key Award – has more than 23 years of experience in product design, product certification, and Standards development. Mr. Manche has held a number of leadership positions with NEMA including the Strategic Code Adoption Initiative and Codes and Standards Committee. He supports the adoption of current infrastructure codes and Standards across the country at state government and building commission hearings.
